Around Strasbourg
Discover Strasbourg, the only city in the world with two remarkable historic city centres, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your Hôtel Le Bouclier d’Or, located in the historic district of La Petite France, allows you to enjoy all the activities the city has to offer, such as restaurants of all kinds, original boutiques and the historic museums and monuments. All in a fully pedestrianised setting.
La Petite France
Points of interest include the Covered Bridges, the Vauban Dam and place Saint-Thomas with its 16th-century church.
Our hotel is located in the heart of this historic and picturesque district of Strasbourg (perhaps one of the most famous in the city). It is included in what is known as “La Grande-île”, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1988.
The half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and the promenade along the banks of the “Ile" are among Strasbourg’s unmissable romantic places. And when the Christmas Market is on, the squares are covered with beautiful wooden chalets offering local produce.
Notre-Dame de Strasbourg Cathedral
The Notre Dame de Strasbourg Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in France. A five-minute walk from the hotel, you can visit and admire in all its glory the cathedral Victor Hugo described as a “prodigy of the gigantic and the delicate".
. With its remarkable large rose window, astronomical clock and 143 metre-high spire, this Gothic masterpiece is the symbol of the city. It forms a beautiful ensemble with the Place du Château, not far from the boarding quay for Strasbourg’s boat tours, which will take you on a journey along the city’s canals.
The different squares:
- Located a stone’s throw from the Cathedral is place Gutenberg. The inventor of the printing press lived in Strasbourg for 10 years. A statue in his honour has also been built there.
- Place Kléber is a key meeting place for the residents of Strasbourg. It is also completely pedestrianised and very pleasant with its flower beds and fountains
- On place Broglie you’ll find the town hall and the opera house.
During the Christmas Market, these different squares are home to the chalets that make the Christkindelsmärik so famous.
